# Painted Shores > Name a shore and a year. We compute every high and low tide from the station's own harmonic constants and print the whole year as fine art. Painted Shores by Painted.App. Run by PaintedApp, LLC (https://painted.app). The full account: https://paintedshores.vercel.app/llms-full.txt Painted Shores is a print studio in the Painted family (https://painted.app). A customer chooses one of 61 NOAA tide stations and a year, and we compute every high and low water of that year from the station's published harmonic constants and draw it as a fine-art print: a ribbon of twelve months, a ring, or a calendar. ## What it is - A prediction, never a forecast. NOAA publishes, for each station, the amplitude and phase of up to 37 tidal constituents, the measured response of that harbour to the Moon and Sun. We use those numbers as published, public domain, and name the station on the plate. - Before a plate is drawn, the engine's highs and lows for five stations are compared with NOAA's own published predictions for the same week. The receipts are in the repository's tests. - A prediction from astronomy, not a forecast from weather. Wind, pressure and river flow move the water too, and no printed table can know them a year ahead. The plate says so in its footer. - 61 stations, all NOAA CO-OPS, from Eastport, Maine to Pago Pago. No interpolation between gauges: a shore without a station is not drawn. - Backgrounds: white, black, parchment, ink and deep-water solids; 29 public-domain flags of the states, territories and islands the stations stand in; 36 photographs of the coasts, their surf and their sunsets. ## How it works 1. Choose Your Shore. One of 61 NOAA tide stations, from Eastport to Pago Pago. Pick a year: next year, the year you met, the year the boat was launched. 2. Set the Plate. Three drawings of the same water: the ribbon, the ring, the calendar. Or the chart of the harbour itself, soundings and all. Paper, black, a flag, or the coast behind it. A line of your own underneath. 3. Hang It. Printed to order on Hahnemühle rag, canvas or framed, and shipped from the nearest of Prodigi's print houses. The curve on the wall is the curve at the water. The mechanism, step by step (each heading on the page is an anchor, so a passage can be cited directly): - The station's constants (https://paintedshores.vercel.app/how-we-compute-the-tide#constants): NOAA publishes, for each station, the amplitude and phase of up to 37 tidal constituents, the measured response of that harbour to the Moon and Sun. We use those numbers as published, public domain, and name the station on the plate. - The astronomy (https://paintedshores.vercel.app/how-we-compute-the-tide#astronomy): Each constituent has a speed fixed by astronomy (M2, the main lunar tide, runs every 12 h 25 m) and a node factor that drifts over the Moon's 18.6-year cycle. We compute both for the year in question, the way NOAA's own tables do. - The sum (https://paintedshores.vercel.app/how-we-compute-the-tide#sum): The height at any minute is the datum plus the sum of every constituent's cosine. For the ribbon we sample every fifteen minutes; for the calendar we find each high and low water by bisection, to the minute. - The check (https://paintedshores.vercel.app/how-we-compute-the-tide#check): Before a plate is drawn, the engine's highs and lows for five stations are compared with NOAA's own published predictions for the same week. The receipts are in the repository's tests. - What it is not (https://paintedshores.vercel.app/how-we-compute-the-tide#not): A prediction from astronomy, not a forecast from weather. Wind, pressure and river flow move the water too, and no printed table can know them a year ahead. The plate says so in its footer. ## Pricing All prices in US dollars.
