A tide table is for everyone who lives by the water, so the site is built to WCAG 2.2 AA and checked by machine before each release, not read over by eye: every page, at a phone’s width and a desktop’s, runs through axe-core, and the contrast of every piece of text is computed against what sits behind it. A failing page does not ship.
What holds on every page
- Everything reachable by keyboard, in reading order, with a visible focus ring.
- Body text at 4.5:1 or better; large text at 3:1 or better.
- Touch targets of 44 px or more.
- Reduced motion honoured: the hero video does not play, the reveals do not animate. Where the video plays, it has a pause button and no sound.
- Every chart carries a description of what it shows, and each station page lists the week’s high and low waters as plain text.
What does not, yet
The plate is a drawing. A screen reader hears what it is, not the water. If you buy a year of tides and want the same year as a text table, ask, and we will send it to you as plain text at no charge: support@painted.app. The same address is for anything on this site you cannot use; we answer within two working days and fix what we can in the next release. Stripe’s checkout page is Stripe’s own, under its own accessibility statement.
The arithmetic behind the drawing is on how we compute the tide, in prose.
